The Noguera Pallaresa river has an abundant water flow and it is considered by worldwide experts one of the best rivers in Europe to practice white water sports. Thanks to the long time tradition of kayaking, many international competitions are held in the waters of l'Aigüerola Slalom Site, the first natural competition course of the state set in the heart of the capital:
- International Rally of La Noguera Pallaresa (every year from 1960)
- Finals of the European Wildwater Cup (1980)
- World Junior Wildwater Championship (1988)
- World Freestyle Championship (2001)
- European Freestyle Championship (2004)
Rafting, hidrospeed and other outdoor activities have transformed Sort into the capital of extreme sports. The word spread around the state has promoted the latest activity tourism in Lleida, with a wide range of activities to enjoy nature and outdoor sports that would suit all tastes. Many different companies are offering the chance to try all kinds of water sports, canyoning, natural itineraries, rides on horse, trekking, climbing, ski or paragliding, among many other ones.
